How is your relationship with God?

Throughout human history we have often made the mistake of trying to make God in an image that fits us. (Romans 1:23-25) In this way, we can come to Him on our terms and by our own set of rules, but that is a corruption of the truth.

The only way to come to God, have a relationship with Him and receive eternal life in Heaven is through Jesus Christ alone (John 14:6). Below is explained some of the character traits of God and how they relate to our salvation.

God is holy.

Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

God cannot tolerate sin. It is not that He simply dislikes it or prefers it not to be around Him, it is completely opposed to His nature. We have all sinned in breaking His law and as a result we are distanced from God. This is true for both this life and eternity.

God is just.

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death;”

It is God’s nature to be a good judge. No matter what, a good judge must punish the offense. God’s law says that death is the punishment for sin. This is not just a physical death, but also the punishment of Hell. God’s nature does not allow sin to go unpunished. There is no variance in God (James 1:17).

Revelation 21:8b “...shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

God is loving.

John 3:16  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

God is love. He provided a way to come to Him through Jesus Christ alone. Despite our sin, God loves us. When we accept His gift, God sees Jesus’ perfect record instead of our sinful record. Christ pays our price, and He does so while we are still sinners. He does not wait for us to become ‘good enough’ as that is never a possibility because of our sinful nature and past.

Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Commendeth means that He proved is love towards us and He did so while we were still sinners.

God is gracious.

John 1:12 “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”

We receive the gift of salvation through faith. This faith must be in Christ alone. It is trusting Jesus and His death, burial, and resurrection as payment for your sin.

Romans 6:23b “…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you do not want to be distant from God any longer, if you want to know that you are assured an eternity in heaven, then it is all laid before you ready for a decision.

Do you believe:

  1. That you are a sinner?

  2. That Jesus died, was buried and rose again for you?

  3. That Jesus’ sacrifice alone is enough to save you?

  4. That your good works cannot get you to heaven?

If so, then it is your time to call on God and accept the gift of salvation, and a relationship with Him.

2 Corinthians 6:2b “…now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”

Perhaps you would pray something like this:

Dear God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve to pay for my sin, but I also know that your Son died in my place. I accept your Son, Jesus Christ, as my Saviour. I trust Him and only Him for my eternity. Thank you for saving me. Amen.
